EMDR Therapy for Burnout and Complex Trauma
Nothing you're doing is working anymore—and you're ashamed by how much energy it takes just to get through the day
You've always felt like the black sheep: too sensitive, too much, never quite fitting in. Maybe you're the child of immigrants who's supposed to be grateful or live up to certain expectations, yet you’re seen as uncaring or cold if you view something differently. You've coped by people-pleasing your way through life, constantly adjusting yourself to make others comfortable. But you're exhausted from never being able to just...be.
Lately you've been wondering if there's more to the story—maybe you've seen those TikToks about ADHD or autism or emotionally immature parents that hit too close to home. But you’ve felt dismissed in the past when you tried to air concerns because your Latinx family doesn’t “believe in” mental health struggles, or past therapists haven’t seen past your mask or markers of success to what you’re really dealing with underneath–like how hard you’re truly trying to perform or live up to the labels others have put on you. The thought of being judged for struggling when your life "looks fine" keeps you stuck.
This isn't therapy that makes you feel worse for needing help. It's therapy that finally gets to the root of why everything feels so hard.
EMDR therapy helps you understand why your family dynamics still affect you, why your body won't let you rest, why the shame feels so loud. This is about releasing the beliefs that you're unlovable or not good enough, and finally living with the freedom and authenticity you deserve.
you deserve to feel understood—and to finally understand yourself.

Meet Brenna Doering, LMHC
Hi, I'm Brenna (she/her), and I get what it's like to feel like you don't quite fit anywhere. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida specializing in EMDR therapy for high-achieving women navigating burnout, complex trauma, and ADHD or autism, especially those who have been labeled as “gifted,” yet never felt like they truly belonged in those spaces. As a late-diagnosed AuDHDer, queer, first-generation Brazilian American who's done my own work around childhood trauma and family patterns, I know what it feels like to constantly question "what's wrong with me?" while trying to people-please my way into existing in this world and hustle to keep up with expectations, either from family or society at large.
I founded That's So Wholesome Co. because I wanted to create a therapy space that celebrates neurodivergent brains, honors cultural identity, and actually gets to the root of why you're struggling—not just slaps a band-aid on your anxiety or depressive symptoms. EMDR therapy is uniquely effective for this work because it helps your nervous system process and release the complex trauma, shame, beliefs, and patterns you've been carrying (often for years) so you can finally stop forcing yourself to fit and start living authentically.
I’m not just here to listen. I’m here to help you make connections, sit with your deepest hurt, and challenge you to take action to live the life you deserve so much. If you’re ready to understand yourself more deeply and begin to truly love yourself (not in a cheesy way), I’d be honored to guide you through that.
What We Can Work On Together
Some of the struggles I often work with include:
Feeling exhausted no matter how much you rest—and frustrated that "basic tasks" like laundry, responding to texts, or making dinner feel impossible most days
Being the family scapegoat or black sheep—always blamed for being "too much," "too sensitive," “too cold,” or "too difficult" when you're just being honest about what feels wrong
Wondering if you have ADHD or autism but feeling scared to explore it, admit you're struggling, or worried your loved ones won't understand or that you won't get the support you really need
People-pleasing your way through life—constantly reading the room and adjusting yourself to keep everyone comfortable while losing yourself in the process
Carrying the weight of generational trauma as a first generation American or child of immigrants—trying to understand yourself and break cycles in a family system that doesn't talk openly about mental health
Masking who you really are in work, social settings, or with loved ones—and the burnout that comes from never feeling safe enough to just be yourself and accept what doesn’t come naturally to you
Complex family dynamics and emotionally immature parents—trying to figure out how to have a relationship with your family without sacrificing your own well-being
Navigating your identity as queer, Latinx, neurodivergent, or first-generation—and healing from the ways those parts of you have been dismissed, invalidated, or erased
Shame and intrusive thoughts that tell you you're not good enough, unlovable, or fundamentally broken—even when you've done everything to try and combat those beliefs
Feeling like you're failing at everything—although you’ve been seen as the “gifted kid” and used to push through to perform well (enough), it’s never come easy to you and now it feels like nothing's working anymore
If you're reading this and thinking, "How does she know exactly what I'm going through?"—you're in the right place. And I'm so happy you found your way here.
What Makes Our Work Different
Therapy that offers you autonomy
All sessions are fully virtual throughout Florida, which means you can dial in from wherever feels most comfortable and safe. Whether that's your couch with your favorite blanket, your car during lunch break, or your bedroom with fidgets nearby—you get to create the environment that helps you feel safe and show up as yourself.
Affirming of all your identities
Your queerness, your neurodivergence, your cultural background as Latinx or a first generation American/child of immigrants—these aren't just things we bring into therapy on occasion. They're core parts of our work together from the start as we understand what’s shaped you. You shouldn't have to explain yourself or educate your therapist about what it's like to navigate these identities. I get it, and more importantly, I celebrate it.
A therapist who actually gets it and keeps it real
I'm not here to just nod along or offer generic advice. I'm relatable, straightforward, and gentle all at once. My clients often say things like "I've never thought about it that way before" or "I didn't know that was an AuDHD thing!" Because part of our work together is making connections between what you're experiencing now and the deeper patterns underneath in a way that finally makes YOU make sense.
EMDR therapy gets to the root, not just the symptoms
Traditional talk therapy can help you understand why you people-please or struggle with shame, but EMDR actually helps your nervous system release those patterns. It's particularly powerful for complex trauma, burnout, and the kind of deep-seated beliefs ("I'm unlovable," "I'm too much") that come from years of family dynamics and masking. EMDR helps you process what's been stored in your body so you can finally stop carrying it.

Therapy won't make you stop feeling "different." But it can help you learn to feel good about yourself anyway.
It can help you finally understand why you've felt out of place or why things have felt especially hard—and realize it wasn't necessarily your fault.
Make those connections between your past and present that suddenly make a lot of sense.
Quiet the intrusive thoughts that tell you you're unlovable or need to be perfect to be loved.
Build the strategies that work with your neurodivergent brain instead of forcing you to function like everyone else.
Stop abandoning your voice to make everyone else comfortable—and learn to have relationships with others without sacrificing yourself.
And finally make peace with a world that hasn't felt like it's for you—and live in alignment with your actual needs with the confidence that you don't need to fit in, you just need to be you.
