therapy for first-generation americans navigating family, identity, and boundaries

a place to talk about the hard things
Growing up first-gen often means carrying family expectations while trying to build a life that feels true to you. You might feel caught between two worlds, navigating guilt, family loyalty, and the need for independence — often all at once.
In therapy, we’ll explore how generational dynamics, cultural pressures, and identity struggles show up in your relationships, boundaries, and self-esteem. This is a space where you don’t have to explain the pressure of being the one who “breaks cycles” — I get it.
Whether you’re figuring out who you are outside of family roles or learning how to advocate for your needs, I’m here to support first-generation adults as they unlearn shame and build self-trust.
About Therapy at That's So Wholesome Co.
what should I expect in therapy?
Therapy is a collaborative space where you can show up exactly as you are — without judgment, pressure, or shame. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, complex family dynamics, trauma, or just feeling stuck in survival mode, we’ll work together to help you make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and patterns. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you — it’s about building self-awareness, learning new tools, and unlearning the beliefs that are holding you back.
We’ll start by getting clear on what brought you here, explore what’s feeling hard right now, and identify the goals you want to work toward. Along the way, I’ll offer reflections, skills, and guidance to help you build trust with yourself and move toward the life you deserve.
Change doesn’t happen overnight, but I’ve seen my clients grow, shift, and heal in ways they didn’t think were possible. If you’re ready to explore this work, I’m here with you — gently, at your pace.
does TSW take insurance? & what are the session fees?
Session fees vary depending on the length and type of service. I offer a limited number of reduced-fee spots for new parents and clients with financial need — we can talk more about this during your free consultation. I’m happy to provide a personalized rate estimate and help you explore your out-of-network benefits before we start working together.
While That’s So Wholesome Co. is an out-of-network provider with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Healthcare, I’ve partnered with Mentaya, a platform designed to make using your out-of-network benefits easier. Mentaya can submit claims on your behalf, taking care of the paperwork and helping you potentially save hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year on therapy. They charge a small 5% fee per claim, and participation is completely optional — I don’t benefit in any way from whether you choose to use it.
Mentaya is perfect if you:
- Have out-of-network benefits
- Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance
- Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement
- Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!
It's risk-free: they guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or a full refund of their fees.
See if you qualify here.
If you’d rather not use Mentaya, I can provide you with a monthly superbill to submit directly to your insurance company. Every plan is different, so I always recommend calling your insurance provider to confirm your out-of-network reimbursement rates before we get started.
what are typical session lengths?
Most sessions are about 50 minutes long, whether we’re working individually, in parenting sessions, or in sessions with couples or partners. I typically meet with clients once a week to support steady progress, but we can adjust frequency based on your needs and goals.
where is TSW located?
That’s So Wholesome Co. is a fully virtual therapy practice, which means you can meet with me from the comfort of your home, your parked car between classes, or wherever you feel safest. As long as you’re located in Florida, we can work together online.
I primarily serve clients across the state, especially in vibrant communities like Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville, and Jacksonville — but no matter where you are in Florida, therapy is just a click away.
